Babur
Open since 1985, this delightful, unpretentious restaurant in Forest Hill, London, is renowned for its stunning and innovative modern Indian cuisine. Babur’s stylish, earthy interior features exposed brick walls, natural wooden furniture and beautiful handmade Bengali artworks. The intimate atmosphere and sensational staff have made Babur a favourite dining destination with Forest Hill locals, and the food is worth making a trip across town for. We highly recommend the spicy sardine fish cake stuffed with caramelised figs; sandalwood ostrich infused with fenugreek; and black cod in spices and mustard oil with mustard mash. The wine list, designed by Peter McCombie, is also superb and features 16 wines by the glass.

The restaurant is inspired by the travel tales of Roop’s father, an Indian Army officer Col. Manbeer Choudhary and his wife Mrs. Binny Choudhary across the Indian subcontinent, created by Roop as a “love letter” to his family, as well as homage to India.
With old-style jazz music, museum worthy artwork and a modern twist on the flavours and textures of India, Colonel Saab is a contemporary viewpoint with an old soul, and a nostalgic palate of memories, aromas and flavours
